The inter-company training on OCS Inventory - NG and GLPI - IT Asset Management is designed to provide IT professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively implement and manage an IT asset management system using OCS Inventory - NG and GLPI tools. 

During this 4-day training, participants will learn how to install, configure, and utilize these two renowned open-source software for asset management. They will explore advanced features of each tool and understand how to seamlessly integrate them into their work environment.

Training Methodology

The training will take place over four days, alternating between theoretical sessions, case studies, practical workshops, and experience exchanges. Day 1: Introduction and OCSNG Architecture

  • Introduction:

    • Identify the challenges of inventory management in a professional context.
  • Overview of OCSNG:
    • Discover Open Computer and Software Inventory Next Generation, its features, and benefits.
    • Analyze the various functionalities offered by OCSNG for inventory.
  • Architecture of OCSNG:
    • Study the client/server architecture, including the database, communication server, agents, and administration console.
    • Understand how these components interact to provide a complete configuration management solution.
  • Installation of OCSNG:
    • Learn how to install OCSNG on different operating systems.
    • Create and manage users for optimal platform usage.

Day 2: Configuration and Management in OCSNG

  • Configuration of OCSNG:
    • Configure OCSNG via the web interface, understanding essential parameters.
    • Use the IPDISCOVER function to automatically detect network devices.
  • Managing Duplicates:
    • Learn to detect and manage MAC address duplicates to maintain accurate inventory.
  • TAG Concept:
    • Introduce the concept of TAG for classifying and managing devices.
    • Study practical examples of using TAGs to enhance management efficiency.
  • Integration with GLPI:
    • Understand how to integrate OCSNG with GLPI for centralized resource tracking.
    • Study concrete use cases illustrating the effectiveness of this integration.

Day 3: Advanced Management with GLPI

  • Using GLPI:
    • Explore GLPI's central console and access the various available functionalities.
    • Perform predefined queries for inventory, highlighting GLPI's flexibility.
  • TAG Management and Advanced Search:
    • Learn how to update TAGs and conduct multi-criteria searches in the inventory.
    • Use TAG analysis for more targeted and relevant searches.
  • GLPI Administration:
    • Manage user rights with customization options based on roles.
    • Assign software and computers to categories and entities for better organization.
    • Create automated rules to simplify management.
  • Configuration Module:
    • Define and modify components.
    • Configure display settings and logging levels for optimal visibility.
    • Set up email notifications for effective tracking of incidents and updates.

Day 4: Advanced Exploitation and Teledeployment

  • Support and Assistance:
    • Track incidents and manage calls via GLPI's helpdesk module.
    • Analyze and generate statistics to improve the support service.
  • Lifecycle Management of Equipment:
    • Study the need for proactive management of equipment throughout its lifecycle.
    • Use plugins for CSV file injection and machine management, including uninstallation and removal of equipment.
  • Package Teledeployment:
    • Understand the principles and architecture of teledeployment for efficient software updates management.
    • Implement priorities and actions to be executed for successful deployment.
  • FusionInventory:
    • Explore FusionInventory as an alternative solution for inventory, including its operation with SNMP.
    • Install FusionInventory agents and conduct a complete network inventory.
  • Backup and Maintenance:
    • Discuss best practices for backup and logging of systems.
    • Establish connections with LDAP directories for consistent user management.
