Description

When choosing a database management system (DBMS), administrators are increasingly turning to Microsoft Azure. This platform offers database management services via Azure SQL Database, a PaaS (Platform as a Service) engine that integrates most of the essential functionalities for the efficient management of relational databases. Thanks to this tool, administrators can concentrate on their main tasks of administration and optimisation.
During this training programme, you will acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge needed to become a certified Azure Associate Database Administrator. The first day will be dedicated to an introduction to the fundamentals of Microsoft Azure, enabling you to understand database concepts and explore Azure Cloud Services and modern data analysis.
The next four days will focus on the advanced aspects of the Associate Administrator role, including the installation and configuration of SQL Azure services. You will then delve into resource optimisation techniques, database access management, and strategies for ensuring high availability and disaster recovery.
At the end of this course dedicated to the administration of Azure databases, you will be ready to take the DP-300 exam included in our offer. By passing this exam, you will obtain Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate certification.

Day 1: Introduction to the fundamentals of Azure data

This first day is devoted to exploring the key concepts associated with data. You will learn about the roles and responsibilities of everyone involved in data processing, as well as the distinctions between relational and non-relational databases. The principles of data analysis will also be covered.

At the end of the day, you will have acquired the following skills:

  • An understanding of the data services available in the cloud.
  • The ability to identify and explain the different types of data, including relational, non-relational, megadata and analytical data.
  • Knowledge of how Azure technology works.

Day 2: Understanding the role of the Azure Associate Database Administrator

This second day is dedicated to understanding the functions of Azure data services. You will learn about the Azure database platform, its capabilities and the level of compatibility with SQL Server. You will also explore the pre-release features offered by Azure.

  • Provision a SQL Server instance via an Azure virtual machine.
  • Access SQL Server and perform a backup.
  • At the end of the day, you will have acquired the following skills:
  • An understanding of the Azure database administrator role and how it interacts with other roles on the platform.
  • Knowledge of the distinctive elements of SQL Server database operations.
  • Understanding the differences between versions and compatibility levels.
  • Activate and deactivate evaluation functions.

Day 3: Planning and managing Azure DBMS resources

  • Deploy a VM from an ARM model.
  • Configuring the resources needed to create a database.
  • Deploy an Azure SQL database, register the instance via Azure Data Studio and check the connection.
  • Deploy PostgreSQL or MySQL via a client tool to validate the connection.
  • At the end of this day, you will have acquired the following skills:
  • Deploying resources using manual techniques.
  • Advice on database offerings adapted to specific requirements.
  • Configuration of database resources.
  • Evaluating and implementing an Azure migration strategy.

Day 4: Creating a secure and reliable Azure environment

This day is devoted to configuring authentications and authorisations for a database. You will learn how to secure data at rest and in transit while applying compliance controls for sensitive information.

  • Creating a server-side firewall rule.
  • Authorising access to Azure SQL Database via Azure Active Directory.
  • Enable advanced security and data classification.
  • Controlling access to database objects.
  • At the end of this day, you will have acquired the following skills:
  • Differentiation between Windows, SQL Server and Azure Active Directory authentication.
  • Defining and configuring encryption solutions for data at rest and in transit.
  • Implementing a solution to manage data sensitivity.

Day 5: Monitoring and optimising data structure resources

  • Identify processor malfunctions.
  • Use Query Store to detect problems.
  • Identify and resolve fragmentation-related faults.
  • At the end of this day, you will have acquired the following skills:
  • Monitor activity against a baseline.
  • Creating performance-based maintenance tasks.
  • Identify the main causes of performance problems.
  • Optimise resource settings to maximise efficiency.

This course is aimed at the following audiences

  • IT professionals who manage data and databases and who wish to acquire knowledge about the administration of Microsoft Azure data platform technologies;
  • data architects and application developers who wish to discover the technologies offered by Azure and determine how to work with them via applications.

To take the Azure Database Administrator Associate course, you need to have the following prerequisites:

  • professional experience in database management and technical skills relating to cloud solutions ;
  • have administered and developed with SQL Server ;

At the end of the Azure Database Administrator Associate course, you will be able to validate the following skills:

  • Identify the various components of an Azure database.
  • Explain the characteristics of relational and non-relational databases on Azure.
  • List the various modules of a modern data warehouse in Microsoft Azure.
  • Understand how an analytical workload works in Azure.
  • Preparing, installing and configuring SQL Azure services.
  • Managing the resources required for the DBMS to function properly.
  • Establishing secure access to Azure services (authentication, identification, etc.).
  • Monitoring and optimising resources in production.
  • Improve SQL query processing.
  • Automate recurring tasks.
  • Designing and deploying a system guaranteeing high availability and disaster recovery.
  • Perform administration operations using the T-SQL language.
